Whenever you see “State Public K-12 Education Funding”, or “For the Kids,” you know the Colorado Democrat controlled legislature is after your TABOR refund (Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights). TABOR was design to put guardrails around the greedy state legislature. This time a small portion goes to the kids, and the rest to the general fund, to spend on whatever they see fit.
Remember when the cigarette tax and alcohol tax was going to fund the schools? The lotto tax was the end to school $$$ problems, right? But of course the marijuana tax and fee fee fee associated with it was the cat’s meow. Enough is enough.

SB26-135 is designed to essentially eliminate TABOR. The bill requires the secretary of state to refer a ballot issue at the November 2026 general election to seek voter approval for the state to retain and spend $$$. VOTE NO damnit, enough is enough.
The purpose of government is to establish infrastructure for citizens and private business and then get out of the way, not to find every possible way to tax the citizens.
If you want a fiscal conservative to halt the out of control spending, there is another option this year for Colorado’s HD 49…
